Trace Press

Letter tracing workbooks for Amazon KDP

An A–Z handwriting workbook, ready to upload to KDP

Pick a trim size and a line size. You get a 26-page paperback interior: one page for each letter, capital and lowercase. Each page has a model letter with numbered start dots and arrows showing stroke order, rows of dotted letters to trace, and rows for writing the letter alone. Then add what you want: a picture on each letter page (“A is for apple”: apple, ball, cat, an outline to colour with the word under it) and stars to count on each number page, four pages of pre-writing lines before A, the numbers 0 to 9 after Z, and your own practice words (sight words, a theme, names), a page each, so your book isn't the same as the next seller's. A word Trace Press has a picture for, such as cat, train or rabbit, gets an outline of it to colour, on 163 words so far: see the animal, food and transportation worksheets. There's a matching full-wrap cover too. It's all built in your browser. No sign-up.

See a finished book (PDF, 27 pages) · and its cover. Both were made with the free version, footer line and PREVIEW mark included.

The height from the top line to the baseline on the tracing rows. Bigger lines are for younger hands.

Both cases on each page, or a book of capitals or of lowercase alone. 26 pages either way.

Print, with numbered start dots and arrows, or joined cursive: a solid model row, then grey rows to write over. Lines pages stay print. The cover follows it.

Only turn this on if you chose bleed in KDP. The page is then 0.125" wider and 0.25" taller, as KDP asks.

“A is for apple”: an outline of a word that starts with the letter (apple, ball, cat…), with the word under it, for the child to colour. Print letters only; Q is a quilt. Number pages 1–9 get that many stars to count, with the number word. The cover gets the apple too.

A first page with the words and a big writing line for the child's name. It's one of the 52 extra pages, so one fewer word fits.

A last page that says “Well done!”, with a big writing line for the child's name and “finished this book.” under it. It's also one of the 52 extra pages.

Four pages before A: down and across lines, slants, zigzags and waves, circles and crosses, with start dots and arrows.

Six pages before A, after the lines if they're on: square, triangle, rectangle, diamond, star and heart, one a page, with start dots and arrows.

Ten more pages after Z, one for each digit, with start dots and arrows like the letters.

Sight words, names, a theme. Separate them with commas or new lines. Each gets a page after Z: the word large with start dots and arrows, a picture to colour if Trace Press has one for it (print only), then rows to trace. Letters and numbers only, up to 52 words. The other extra pages count against the 52: Numbers 0–9 take 10, lines 4, shapes 6, and the name page and the well-done page 1 each.

Built to KDP's manuscript rules

Stroke order you can see

Every letter is drawn as the strokes a pencil makes, not as a font outline. The model letter numbers where each stroke starts, and red arrows show which way it goes. The letters follow a vertical manuscript (ball-and-stick) style.

Pre-writing lines, before A

Tick Pre-writing lines and the book opens with four pages of the strokes letters are built from: down and across lines, slants, zigzags and waves, circles and crosses. Each has a numbered start dot and arrows, like the letters. To print just those, the free tracing lines worksheets are the four pages as a PDF.

Shapes, before A

Tick Shapes and the book gets six pages before A, after the line pages if those are on: a square, triangle, rectangle, diamond, star and heart, one a page, each from the bottom line to the top line with a numbered start dot and an arrow on every side. To print just those, the free shape tracing worksheets are the six pages as a PDF.

Numbers 0–9

Tick Numbers 0–9 and the book gets ten more pages after Z, one for each digit, laid out like the letter pages: the number large with a numbered start dot and arrows, then rows to trace. Each follows a published school number formation chart: the 4 open with the short stroke first, the 5's hat last, the 8 as an S with a line back up. To print just the numbers, the free number tracing worksheets are the ten pages as a PDF.

Your own words, after Z

Type up to 52 words in the Practice words box. Each gets its own page: the word large with start dots and arrows on every letter, rows of it to trace, and blank lines to write it alone. The page count and the cover's spine width follow. 52 words keeps the book under 79 pages, the point where KDP starts allowing spine text, so the blank spine stays correct.
